I typically don’t like to see the same files existing under different letter cases either. However the problem with case insensitivity is that unicode is an evolving standard such that two operating systems can legitimately disagree about file name overlaps. With case sensitive file systems the question of consistency goes away since all filenames are consistently allowed.
